A sensory-friendly martial arts class is a quieter, more predictable taekwondo session for kids who get overwhelmed in a standard dojo. Aspire runs that class in Norton Shores with Master Willard and Mrs. Willard, a special-education teacher with more than 20 years in an SXI classroom.
It is a class built for kids with autism, ADHD, SPD, or other sensory needs: fewer surprises, slower transitions, and room to reset.
Lights, noise, and partner work are managed so the student can stay in the room and still learn kicks, forms, and respect. Aspire’s version uses the same classroom strategies Mrs. Willard uses with severely multiply impaired students.
A typical kids class moves fast, uses loud counting, and expects every child to stay in the same drill.
Aspire’s sensory-friendly class keeps the same taekwondo skills but changes the room: calmer cues, more one-to-one help, and permission to step back without being “in trouble.”
School-age kids who need extra structure to learn in a group — autism, ADHD, anxiety, or mixed sensory needs. It is a real taekwondo class, not a therapy clinic.
Parents in Norton Shores, Muskegon, and Grand Haven use it when a standard kids class is too loud or too fast.
Ask who teaches, how they handle overload, and whether you can watch a session. Bring notes on noise, lights, or touching.

Classes are at 928 E Broadway Ave, Norton Shores. After the trial, see Membership Options. Kids ready for a standard class can move into Lil Dragons (ages 5–9).
